Councilwoman Elizabeth Walters initiated an ordinance to extend paid parental leave to county employees, which would make Summit the first county in Ohio to implement the change. Summit County Council is considering giving six weeks paid leave for both mothers and fathers for up to six weeks after the birth or adoption of a child.
